Weight - 43lb 3oz (36lb 3oz - silvers)
Catch - 27 Roach, 25 (F1s, Fantails, Crucians), 7 Skimmers, 1 Perch, 1 Carp
Weather - Warm & sunny
Today I didn’t have time to fish a match, so decided to fish
here, arriving early and finishing a 5hr session at 2pm. The intention was to catch
loads of skimmers, fishing pellet on the deck over micros & 4s. Due to the
recent warm weather the fish didn’t want to settle on the deck. Starting on
pellet, I soon switched to corn, then worm without any real success. The fish
simply wanted to be shallow and after 90mins of struggling to hook a fish
properly, a shallow rig was sorted on an 18 B911 and banded 6mm pellet. The
first 5 fish were roach and I was beginning to whether it was going to happen
when I had the first of many F1s/Fantails/Crucians, plus more roach.
I also caught a 7lb carp early, on a long line shallow rig. I
swung the rig at a few carp during the session, but they weren’t really interested
in feeding. A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning.
Weight - 26lb 4oz
Catch - 36 Skimmers, 14 Roach, 11 F1s, 3 Crucians
Weather - Cloudy
A change of scenery fishing with my mate Jim and my godson Ross, whilst helping Ross catch a few fish I managed this tidy net of silvers which made a pleasant change from targeting carp. To keep things simple it was a 1 rig job at 13m feeding 4s & micros with 4mm expander. I did set up a margin rig, but only gave it 5mins.
Weight - 14lb 0oz
Catch - 49 Roach, 11 Skimmers, 2 Rudd, 1 Perch
Weather - Mostly cloudy, cool easterly
A day at
Brimsham Green with my god son, Ross and his Dad, which gave him an opportunity
to try out his birthday present, a new pole. Unfortunately a strong easterly
breeze meant the skimmers didn’t feed in any numbers and I struggled for the
first couple of hours fishing expander or dead maggot over pellet/groundbait.
In the end
I caught a few roach short on caster, which was quite enjoyable and not
something I have done for a little while, which probably showed! To finish off
I dumped a load of bait down the margin hoping for a carp or 2, but finished
with 3 decent skimmers, the biggest being 2½lb.
An angler
opposite in the trees where it was a little more sheltered, probably had 15lb,
but again very few skimmers, most of his catch was made up of F1s and a couple
of tench. There was also a young lad to my right who hooked a carp on .12
bottom and 8 elastic. But fair play he got it out and I weighed it at 11-4.
Needless to say the lad was quite happy.
As for Ross
and his Dad, they struggled a little, but still ended up with a tidy net of
roach and small skimmers.
Weight - 25lb
Catch - 37 Skimmers, 7 F1s, 7 Roach, 3 Tench
Weather - Warm
I had planned to fish a match today, but had too many things to do. Waking up early I wanted to go fishing for a short early morning session and decided to fish Tylers Lake, because it was only a short drive away. Since fishing here last time in December I had wanted to come back to try again and today seemed like the perfect opportunity.
Arriving at 6am I soon set up 2 rigs, a HB Chump 0.3g > .12 > 16 B911 to fish at 11.5m and a HB Billybob 0.2g > .14 > 16 B911 to fish the margin.
After feeding 2 cups of groundbait and mixture of pellet at 11.5m, I started in the margin with corn and caught a small tench straight away. But other than little knocks, no further fish came, so I switched to long line and soon caught skimmers and a couple of F1s on 4mm expander or corn. By feeding a large toss pot of 4s & 6s every 3rd fish I managed to keep the fish on the deck. After an hour another big pot of pellet & groundbait went in and whilst that settled another visit to the margin produced another tench, plus a skimmer and a few roach. The 2nd & 3rd hour followed a similar pattern.
As I said it was only a short 3.5hr session, but very enjoyable. Next time I fish here I hope to have a little more time on my hands. There was loads of fish moving around and a decent net of roach would be on the cards if you fished caster. For free fishing it a decent little venue.
Weight - 19lb 6oz
Catch - 31 Roach, 21 Skimmers, 12 Perch, 3 Rudd, 1 Crucian, 1 Goldfish, 1 Hybrid
Weather - Sunny, breezy start, showery later
Something completely today. I could have gone to Todbers Christmas match, but didnt fancy the long drive down, particularily since I'm going to Trinity Waters on Sunday. There was also a match at Lands End but with only 3 or 4 booked in, it wasnt worth it, besides I needed a lie in.
Tylers Lake is situated in Brinsham Green, Yate. I remember the lake when it was surrounded by fields, but that was 25 years ago and the last time I fished here was 10 years ago. So why did I decide on fishing here? I've walked Sapphire around the lake a few times when visiting my Mum who lives 5mins away and talking to some the anglers suggested there was plenty of skimmers, crucians and a few carp.
The recent mild weather has melted away the ice, but with a forecast wind, I settled on a more seltered area of the lake.
I only set up 2 rigs, Jolly 4x12, .08 & 22 silverfish maggot & Frostie 0.3g, .10 & 18 silverfish pellet.
A small ball of black roach & pinkie was deposited to my left at 13m and micros at 13m. Starting over the groundbait, I was soon catching small perch, then roach on pinkie or maggot, before catching better roach on caster, over tosspotted caster.
I had tried the pellet line a couple times, with no real success, but eventually the skimmers turned up on 4mm expander. I probably had the bulk of my weight in the last 2 hours of the session.
Well I had a better day than expected and they say a change of scenery is as good as rest - well sometimes.
